The history of Hof Maiezyt

According to legend, the beautiful and large main building of our farm was built in 1869 by the Blatter brothers - an old Habkern family - after a successful casino game as a common and extremely spacious mountain farmhouse with the nickname "z`Hanslis" in Tschiemen in the Schwendibäuert zu Habkern. Probably a bit too generous, because soon the gained capital was used up and the peasants of yesteryear emigrated to America.

At the beginning of the 1930s, the Mahler siblings came to Habkern and with great commitment founded the Maiezyt children's home in the spirit of Pestalozzi. Up until the 1960s, 40-50 children from the most diverse backgrounds populated the mighty wooden house during weeks of recreation. Artistic inscriptions in the roof beams tell of these times. This is how the children of the families fleeing the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler on 20 June 1944 came to Habkern. → Thuner Tagblatt vom 2.11.2009

After the sale to the municipality of Spiez, the Maiezyt served for more than 30 years as a holiday home for school classes and families, mainly from the municipality of Spiez. The house was run with enormous commitment by the then Verein zur Ferienversorgung Spiez on a voluntary basis.

Maiezyt Farm has been privately owned since June 2005 and offers school classes, youth groups, couples, families as well as manager and team leaders infrastructure and accommodation in beautiful surroundings, usually self-catering, but on request also with breakfast or simple half board.
